Doing yoga everyday sounded easy when I came up with this project. Of course, it wasn't. The first 5 days were strong, but then a family function where we were away for a couple of days derailed my habit. I then had a few days of pure exhaustion, followed by another strong attempt with 5 more days in a row and then ended evenly with yoga every other day. So out of the total 30 days: I did yoga for 20 of them (not bad I don't think).

In order to track any progress or change, I filled out the same survey on the first day and the last day too compare.

Major points:

1. Pregnancy is pregnancy- sometimes pain and discomfort is inevitable no matter what you do, but yoga and activity in general I believe lessened these issues through the month.

2. My sleep improved since my hip pain was less- I also began sleeping with a pregnancy pillow during this time, so this may also have benefited my pain levels.

3. I felt better the day after 20 minutes of yoga vs 60 minutes.

4. Downward dog was my least liked pose and cat/cow and happy baby (surprise surprise) were my favourites.

5. I have now not done any yoga in a week, only walking and light stretching- my hip pain has increased.

My opinion for those thinking of trying yoga: Do not try yoga for the first time from a youtube video- I recommend taking at least one beginner class to start off, so that the professional is able to see you and correct you to decrease any chance of injury. With my background in massage therapy and years of taking yoga classes, I felt comfortable to do it in the comfort of my own home, and am able to listen to my body and what it needs or cannot do.

My main source for the yoga exercises:

Most days I would simply search "prenatal yoga" on YouTube and then pick something that fit within my timeframe. Some days I took part in formal prenatal classes through Nest Family Centre in Winnipeg, and on days when I just didn't feel like it, I sat and did stretches and poses that felt good to me at the time and that I liked. I found it hard to put my mind at rest (especially when my 2 year old is using me as jungle gym) but I still tried to stick with it as much as I could. Below is the link to Nest Family Centre where I took part in my prenatal classes for any who are interested.
