My Wedding Bouquet
Wedding bouquets are meant to represent you and your hopes for your marriage. Some choose roses for love, daffodils for new beginnings, or hydrangeas for perseverance. My vision for a wedding bouquet was a brooch bouquet on a tree branch stem- not the norm- as I may have said before, I am not too much for flowers. Part of why I chose to use brooches given to me by family, friends and community members was to represent the support Chris and I have always had around us, and to carry that with us into our marriage. We started dating very young, around age 14 and 15, and we know both from experience and many people telling us, that it is no small feet to have stayed together (and have been happy doing so). As with most relationships, there were ups and downs. We had to learn to grow up individually as well as together in order to make it work. A lot of credit of course goes to Chris (and me haha) but some credit has to be given to our support system. And because of this fact, I wanted to include this brooch bouquet as a gesture of appreciation and recognition for the support and love we have both received growing up in our small communities.
This piece was a one of the bigger of my wedding crafts to pull off and took the entire year before the wedding to collect enough supplies. I had everyone on the hunt for beautiful brooches that I could use to put this thing together. Now the reason it is in the glue month, is because the ENTIRE thing (every single piece) was put together with a hot glue gun! Yes that's right- every-single-piece! A lot of hot glue was used haha.
I ended up with some very personal ones that to this day fill my heart with joy to have, specifically a locket with my Grandmas photos, so they could both walk down the aisle with me, and a brooch from Chris' Great Grandma that was given to me by his Grandma. This was one of the first family heirlooms I received from his side of the family, which made me feel like I was officially part of the family, so it is very special to me. The rest are made up of an innumerable amount from community members in both Grosse Isle and Woodlands, and family members from both sides which made this piece extremely personal and a real labor of love. It sits on display in our bookcase with our wedding albums, and remains my favourite piece that I made for our wedding.
